Outlive Peer Support programme offers young people an opportunity to volunteer their time, develop practical communication skills, and support other young people through chat-based conversations. The programme is built around the idea that a supportive conversation can help someone feel heard and understood during a difficult period. Outlive trains young volunteers to provide emotional support to youth experiencing distress or thoughts of suicide. Volunteers are supported by trained peer mentors through individual and group mentoring. You do not need a formal qualification in mental health or suicide prevention to apply as an Outlive peer supporter. The current eligibility information includes being 18–25 years old, residing in India, being fluent in English, Hindi, Marathi, or Kannada, and having access to a device with an internet connection. The opportunity can be relevant for students, young adults, and others interested in peer support, emotional wellbeing, youth participation, or suicide prevention. Along with contributing to a youth-focused programme, volunteers can develop skills in listening, communication, empathy, and providing appropriate emotional support. Outlive’s peer-support model also recognises that volunteers need support themselves. Peer supporters receive guidance and mentoring rather than being expected to manage challenging conversations on their own.
